The daughter of an undertaker has a vision of her father’s imminent death and attempts to save him from his fate. ​​​​​​​

The Undertaker's Daughter is a handcrafted stop-motion short.  Developed during a pandemic, it was meant as a "simpler" alternative to a live-action short. Two puppets, six sets and fourteen thousand frames later, it has grown to become Paula's most ambitious project yet. 
Lorsque la fille d'un croque-mort a une prémonition de la mort imminente de son père, elle fera tout pour qu'il échappe à son sort. 
The Undertaker's Daughter est un court métrage artisanal de stop-motion. Développé en temps de pandémie, il se voulait être une alternative plus "simple" à un film en personne. Deux pantins, six décors et quatorze-mille photos plus tard, il est devenu le project le plus ambitieux de Paula jusqu'à date. 
Director's Statement
I was born in a family of undertakers. Before my first birthday, my father sold the business; I was spared the responsibility of taking over the funeral home and became a filmmaker instead, a profession much better suited for my wild and imaginative spirit. Still, I often find myself wondering what my life would have been like had my father kept it. I’ve grown up hearing stories about the dead - some funny, some sad and gloomy, others mysterious and inexplicable.  
The Undertaker’s Daughter is an ode to these stories, a fairytale that explores death, family and fate through the expressive medium of stop-motion film. It’s a creative take on what my life could have been, a journey into my ancestors’ lives, a tale of a daughter left to fill her father’s shoes. While unmistakably macabre, it is also a story of hope and making one’s destiny their own. While my fate wasn’t to become an undertaker, this project is my own way of keeping my family’s legacy alive.
Intention de la réalisatrice
Je viens d'une famille de croque-morts. Avant mon premier anniversaire, mon père a vendu l'entreprise familiale, m'épargnant la responsabilité de reprendre la maison funéraire et me permettant de me tourner vers le cinéma, une profession mieux adaptée à mon esprit créatif et indépendant. Il m'arrive tout de même parfois d'imaginer ce que ma vie aurait pu devenir s'il l'avait gardée. J'ai grandi en entendant des d'histoires à saveur mortuaire; certaines amusantes, d'autres plus lugubres ou encore mystérieuses et inexplicables. 
The Undertaker’s Daughter est une ode à ces histoires, un conte qui explore la mort, la famille et le destin à travers le médium expressif du stop-motion. C'est une approche créative à ce que ma vie aurait pu être, un voyage au temps de mes ancêtres, le récit d'une fille qui doit succéder à son père. Si elle est manifestement macabre, c'est aussi une histoire d'espoir et d'émancipation. Si mon destin d'était pas de devenir croque-mort, alors ce projet est ma manière de poursuivre l'héritage familial.
